McLean Chocolate Festival
The McLean Chocolate Festival is a community and family-based event held the last Sunday in January at the McLean Community Center from 11 AM to 5 PM. The event brings out local residents during a relatively quiet winter time to enjoy all things chocolate and to raise funds to support local school and charitable organizations. About 20 vendors sell something chocolate (cakes, cupcakes, cookies, drinks, ice cream, etc.) and give Rotary 25% of their proceeds to go to charity. Interact Club students from McLean and Langley High School manage a children’s game room where children play chocolate-themed games and see three performances throughout the day by Ukelele Phil and the Hula Kids. The festival also features a demonstration of chocolate making in colonial America by American Heritage, a Mars company. Over 2,000 people attend the event, which has raised over $10,000. The next festival will be January 31, 2016. See www.mcleanchocolatefestival.org for more information.
The event is staffed entirely by McLean Rotarians. The Committee Chair is Jan Auerbach. Members of the committee are Michael Arietti, Dale Lazar, John McEvilly, Rick Neldon, George Sachs, Eva Sereghy, Dana Sippel, Carol Stone, Carol Triplett, Carmen Wu, and Glenn Yarborough.
